Hook Island 22 Christmas Eve

We were woken up way too early. Back on the boat and off to Whitehaven Strand. It's considered the best beach in Australia.

We anchored and got the tender to the beach. The sand was so fine it squeaked. You could polish jewellery with it. The only other people were other sailing tourists. Paradise. Wayne gave us diving instructions, much more thorough than the Cairns gang. A stingray swam really close to us. We sailed off to the dive spot. There was more coral than the Cairns dive, but maybe not as many fish. I did forward and backwards rolls. Wayne gave us a sea cucumber to touch.

Back to Hook Island. We had Christmas dinner on the boat andI pulled out the guitar. Nice to have full control over the tune selection. Sean the captain went ashore to ring his Mum and asked me to entertain the troops. About half of the gang stayed. I broke a string (the ususal one) playing the national anthem. I should have remained seated. There was no sign of Sean. Other captains refused to drop us to the island cos of insurance. We shouted and whistled and eventually Sean made it. He was worried that the tender would get beached. It did. We waded to the island. Broke another string in the bar. Colm from Ireland went off and came back with a fresh guitar and guitarist and a didgeridoo and off to the beach. Eventually a German complained that he couldn't sleep and that was the end of the best Christmas Eve ever
