Slept all the way to Sydney. Flew to Cairns two hours later. Mac got struck down with some kind of stomach bug. The chinese in Perth was the prime suspect. The humidity was overpowering. It was a struggle to walk down the street. Booked into Jimmy's on the Esplanade. Went campervan shopping. I was looking at a noticeboard in a nearby hostel when Jochanan from Israel rushed over and asked me was I looking to buy a car. I decided to go for a test drive. It was an automatic red 89 Ford Falcon estate. I got the impression he was desperate to sell cos he and his friends were hanging around the hostel all day. He was very informative though and soon my head was spinning with talk of regos, RWC and other car buying tips. I told him I'd think about it. Left a message with everyone selling a campervan and anyone who appeared to run a car well e.g. Germans. No response. Back to the hostel. Mac was still in trouble, but he managed to get up for dinner. Cairns is a resorty town but is a good base for activities. |
